Cobia
Flyfishing and light tackle sight fishing for Cobia on the pristine backcountry and
ocean flats surrounding Key West.
When the weather conditions cooperate in the early months of the
year, Cobia appear on the flats as they follow Rays and Sharks in search of a free meal.
When doing so, they are an easy target, and once hooked are an extremely powerful
opponent. They range in size from 10 to 100 pounds and will use every ounce of it to avoid
being caught. For Cobia, a 10 to 11 weight flyrod or 10 to 20 pound spinning setup is
ideal.
