Tarpon
Tarpon flyfishing and light tackle sight fishing on the pristine backcountry and ocean flats surrounding Key West.
Tarpon Caught on Fly in the Key West BackcountryCommonly known to anglers as the "Silver King", the Tarpon was probably the first fish ever declared a Game fish. And rightly so, for these are the most interactive of fish. They perform awesome acrobatics, have screaming runs, and posses unforgiving brute strength. They are the most popular and sought after Game fish in the Florida keys and are truly exciting!

The larger Tarpon are migratory, first arriving during the late winter months and staying through the spring, and can be found on deeper flats, channels and around bridges. The smaller resident Tarpon, which can be caught year round, also provide for a fun time. Tarpon range in size from 10 pounds to a tackle busting 200 pounds. The most challenging pursuit would include 10 to 12 weight fly outfits or 10 to 20 pound spinning tackle.
