Anglers
are not usually familiar with the Jack Crevalle, but Jack Crevalle are in abundance here
and are underrated. They fight tough and are fun to hook up because they are surface
eaters. Most jacks are found in deep channels or on shallow flats following rays and
sharks.
"This monster Jack Crevalle was teased up by an erratic top water plug, but
hooked on 8 pound tippit. It took me 45 minutes to get him in and could have been a flyrod
world record but I chose to release it." |

Jacks range in size from a
pound to 30 plus pounds. A typical setup is an 8 to 10 weight fly rod or an 8 to 10 pound
spinning gear.
